Thank You, Coach.

Labor Day Weekend – the unofficial end of summer. It’s here. School has started. Parents rejoice. Kids mourn. Teachers get down to work. But, what about your summer ball coach?

While a few teams are still playing through the fall, most are not. So, whether you’ve wrapped your season or not, make sure you take a minute to thank your coach.

Take a minute to thank them for the countless hours spent on hot, dusty fields with you.

Take a minute to thank them for the weekends spent apart from their families.

Take a minute to thank them for showing up with a smile, rain or shine.

Take a minute to thank them for arguing balls and strikes, because they want the best for you.

Take a minute to thank them for scheduling games against tough opponents to challenge you.

Take a minute to thank them for all of those thousands of BP pitches.

Take a minute to thank them for catching all of those bullpens, especially when it seems all you can throw are dirt balls.

Take a minute to thank them for doing this for little to no pay.

Take a minute to thank them for showing you the meaning of hard work and hustle.

Take a minute to thank them for teaching you that failure can be life’s best lesson.

Take a minute to thank them for putting up with you and a dozen or more other young men and/or women.

And when you thank your coach, whether it’s with words, a hug or handshake, you’ll have told that coach that they are important to you. With your thanks, you will have told them that they have had a positive impact on you. You will be telling them that you grew not solely as an athlete, but also as a person.

That’s all a coach wants to hear.
